Well, I had been thinking about it for a year or so now and I have finally bit the bullet, I have genrefied my library that I currently work in. Why now you ask? Well after completing assessment two which required me to research genrefication it was clear to me through the research that it was the way to go. There is only a handful of students in my school that search for books by author so I thought I would genrefy my collection and see what happens. Well, students are now borrowing books that they never knew existed. Although it is still a work in progress, I believe it will be the right fit for my current library. I used the book categories found in Oliver Library system for the books that did not stand out to me as a specific genre. I am currently using a colour coding system and will have displays so kids understand what colour means what if the books accidentally get mixed into other categories. Below is the beginning of my genrefication journey.
