This workshop was an introduction into coding with Sphero. The Sphero is a ball like robot which can be controlled using an iPad. This was a new robotic technology that Brisbane Libraries had invested in and had offered training to staff at The Cube.
This was a new robotic technology that had been introduced into the library service, and events were starting to be held with Sphero’s. I decided it would be beneficial to attend this training because I hadn’t had any experience with using Sphero, and I knew we would be offering Sphero events at the branch in which I could possibly have to facilitate.
Going into this workshop I hoped to gain the skills and confidence to then return to my library to host Sphero events. With completing this workshop, I certainly gained this and have since successfully hosted many Sphero events.
The workshop was really beneficial to me because it was very practical and hands on, where we got to practice in using the Sphero’s. This workshop also gave insight into not only how to operate the Sphero, but how to successfully run an event with them and what type of activities you could do using these robots.
Before going into this training, I was certainly intimidated of using Sphero and was certainly wondering how I would manage hosting an event. Attending this workshop helped me to get over this hesitation.
