This morning presentation of the seminar went over the copyright fundamentals for libraries and archives and then explained what is new with regards to the copyright act. This 2-hour seminar presented a lot of information and briefly explained copyright with regards to information professions. Aimed for people within the GLAM fields

I decided I wanted to attend this seminar because it was being offered through work and because I wanted to gain a greater knowledge on Copyright and particularly with relation to libraries.

Although I feel like in a public library we don’t deal with Copyright issues as much as an Academic library, it’s still important to know the basics for things such as photocopying and screening of films for events.

This event helped me to gain a brief overview knowledge of Copyright and how it’s relevant to libraries and archives. I did find that 2 hours wasn’t enough time and that it was very fast paced with a lot of legal information thrown in your face so it was very much information overload by the end of the session. With Copyright constantly changing I feel that I need to attend something like this seminar every year just to keep on top of the latest information.

With the Copyright knowledge gained in this seminar, I will plan to use it daily in my job as library assistant in a public library to make sure that myself and my team are being copyright compliant.
