Hi! Welcome to my site. My name is Hayley and I’m a student studying my Bachelor of Information Studies (Librarianship specialisation) at Charles Sturt University. I’m currently the acting manager of the digitisation unit within a government library.
My goals for the future include further education in the areas of history (specifically medieval, modern and book history), collection management, preservation, and cataloguing and metadata. My long term goal is to work with and manage rare books and special collections, ensuring they are accessible through detailed cataloguing, and best practices in conservation and preservation.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) & Networking Philosophy
Despite working as a library professional for nearly ten years, it is only recently while studying my degree that I have begun participating in CPD activities and have come to see their value. I believe that lifelong learning is a key component of success as an information professional. Completing CPD activities helped me to uncover some of my core values such as the need to seek out learning opportunities which build on my knowledge and challenge me personally and professionally. My identity as an information professional is not fixed, it will change and evolve as I learn and grow and CPD is an integral part of that process.
I see professional networking as an important element of CPD. Connecting with other information professionals in my chosen field at conferences, webinars and during other CPD activities offers me new opportunities to learn and grow. Cultivating relationships and expanding my professional network provides me with people who I can turn to for guidance, who can introduce me to new career opportunities and who can share their knowledge and experience enabling my further growth and success as an information professional.
This site includes online journal entries and professional development reflections completed as part of my degree. I invite you to have a look around, leave a comment (or two 🙂 ) and hopefully build on your own learning. Feel free to follow me on Instagram or Twitter, or connect with me on LinkedIn 🙂
