Wine Australia PhD top-up scholarship – apply now!

The PhD top-up scholarship program is an important part of Wine Australia’s investment in developing researcher capacity and ability, ensuring we have researchers developing the skills and expertise needed for working on opportunities that will help improve sustainability and profitability of the Australian grape and wine sector.

While this opportunity is open to applications from PhD candidates delivering innovative research aligned to the One Grape and Wine Sector Plan themes addressed in Wine Australia’s Strategic Plan 2025-2030, this year we have identified several priority topic areas of interest. Preference may be given to applicants addressing a topic from the below list:

    Novel strategies for pest, disease and virus management in Australian vineyards.

  • Plant breeding and gene target identification.
  • Novel mid-strength wine production processes.
  • Nonchemical control of disease, for example using UV-C and autonomous technology.
  • Environmental, Social and Governance challenges as outlined in the ESG Investment Plan.
  • Novel strategies across waste circularity, treatment, safe reuse of secondary materials and circular markets.
  • Consumer insights, with a focus on moderation and health, export and emerging markets, macro and external drivers, value perception.
  • Development and adoption of digital, data and Artificial Intelligence.

ACSPRI Fellowship Program – closing July 31

The deadline for stage 1 of the $25,000 ACSPRI Fellowship Program is July 31.

PhD Candidates at ACSPRI Member Institutions are invited to apply for the 2026-27 round.

Applicants from the full spectrum of social science disciplines and cogent fields are welcome to apply. This includes the traditional social sciences (e.g., anthropology, economics, demography, psychology, political science, sociology, etc.), the emerging field of computational social sciences/social data science, and applied disciplines aligned with the social sciences (e.g., business, education, public health, social work, etc.).

Valued at $25,000, Fellowship holders will receive an annual bursary for 2 years and financial support to participate in ACSPRI courses and events. In detail:

  • $10,000 bursary payment per year for each of 2 years ($20,000 in total);
  • a fee waiver for the attendance at an ACSPRI course in each year of the Fellowship (2 courses in total);
  • financial support to attend the ACSPRI Biennial Conference.

2026-27 ACSPRI Fellowship Program

PhD Candidates are invited to apply for the 2026-27 ACSPRI Fellowship Program. Applicants from Social Science and aligned relevant fields are welcome to apply.

The Fellowship provides direct financial support with a $10,000 bursary payment per year over 2 years, and professional development, with a fee waiver for attendance at an ACSPRI course for each year of the fellowship.

Valued at $25,000, candidates from Charles Sturt University are now welcome to apply. Applications close 31 July, 2025.

Skyrail Rainforest Foundation- PhD and Post Doctoral funding grants

The Skyrail Rainforest Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of funding to support research that enhances the protection and management of tropical rainforests through better understanding and sustainable practices.

Now in its 20th year, the unique research funding program has supported a vast array of rainforest focused projects and researchers in various disciplines. This support has enabled many students to complete or further their studies and, ultimately, has contributed to the collective knowledge accumulated on the subject of tropical rainforests.

Applications Now Open:
Eligible students can now apply to access research funding grants in 2025.

– For PhD and Post Doctoral students grants of up to $21,000 for a term of 3 years.

– For Honours, Graduate Diploma and Masters grants of up to $7,000 for a one-off term. Read more

PhD Top-Up Scholarships

JDRF Australia is inviting applications for PhD Top-up Scholarship 2025.
JDRF offers PhD Top-Up Scholarships to support and encourage PhD students pursuing research in the field of type 1 diabetes.

Applicants must be:

  • The recipient of either a Research Training Program Stipend, NHMRC Postgraduate Award or a University-funded PhD Scholarship
  • Not receiving any other PhD top-up funding
  • Pursuing research relevant to type 1 diabetes
  • Australian citizens or permanent residents residing in Australia

CSIRO Industry PhD Scholarship Program

CSIRO are excited to announce their 2025 Expression of Interest (EOI) intakes for the CSIRO Industry PhD program.

The first round for applications will open from 3 February and closes 11 April 2025. The second round will open from 28 April and closes 22 August 2025. These projects are expected to start late 2025/early 2026.

Approximately two thirds of available projects will be approved in the primary round to allow the project to be advertised at a time when more students are searching for PhD opportunities.

Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE)

Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE): Applications now open until 1 July 2025

Calling for applications for a new round of the Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE) Research Internship Program, for international travel in the period 1st October 2025 – 31st December 2026.

Applications are now open and will close 11.59 pm 1st July 2025 (Australian Eastern Standard Time).

The Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE) Program is an exciting international exchange opportunity open to Early Career Researchers at the Ph.D. and postdoctoral level. Each successful applicant is provided with costs towards a return flight and up to A$200 per week (up to a maximum of 26 weeks) to support accommodation expenses associated with a visit from:

  • Australia/New Zealand to France, or
  • France to Australia.

Eligible applicants must be a PhD student in, or hold a postdoctoral appointment at, a French university or AINSE-member university. The research project must be in collaboration with at least one researcher employed by ANSTO or another Australian AINSE-member institution (in the field of nuclear science and engineering and in the areas of Health, Environment or Nuclear Technologies), and at least one researcher employed by a French university or French research institution.

The research internship is required to take place over a period of 8–26 weeks between 1st October 2025 – 31st December 2026.The terms & conditions are available through our SAAFE website. Applications will remain open until 1st July 2025 via the AINSE Grants Portal.

Australian Institue of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) Scholarships

AINSE are currently receiving applications for the 2025 round of our Pathway Scholarships for Honours and Masters students.

Eligible students who will be enrolled in any Honours program OR Masters program, for some period between 1st January 2025 and 31st March 2025, can now apply for the 2025 AINSE Pathway Scholarship via the AINSE Grants Portal.

We’ve had successful recipients from Charles Sturt in 2023 (FOBJBS, SCME) and 2024 (FOSH, SAEVS).

To be eligible for the AINSE Pathway Scholarship, students must be:

  • Enrolled in an Honours degree OR a Masters degree, at a current financial AINSE Member Institution (CSU is one) for some period between 1st January 2025 and 31st March 2025; and
  • As part of their degree requirements, must submit a research project involving the use of ANSTO facilities, or the analysis of data previously collected from ANSTO facilities, in collaboration with an ANSTO staff member.
