Braun, V., & Clarke, V. (2022). Thematic analysis: A practical guide. Sage Publications Ltd.

PhDs can be journeys of personal change and growth, which can be tough at times. Having a good guidebook with you on the way can make all the difference between a hard, lonely, uphill slog, and a challenging yet rewarding and lifegiving adventure. If you’re about to embark on your research analysis, a perfect guide is Virginia Braun and Victoria Clarke’s 2022 book, Thematic analysis: A practical guide.

Braun and Clarke use the metaphor of an adventurous journey (as opposed to a pre-organised, inflexible bus-tour) to describe and bring to life the analysis process. This approach, and their accessible, conversational, and easy-to-follow writing style, provide a path through potentially confusing territory, and bring thematic analysis to life. Focusing on reflexive thematic analysis, they encourage the researcher to become an integral part of the research adventure and provide appropriate and thought-provoking questions to help the reader dive deeply into personal perspectives, reactions, thoughts and assumptions.

If you need a good travel companion on your research analysis adventure, this book is highly recommended.
