Session overview
Communication is a human right for all – and ALL includes children. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (United Nations, 1989) outlines children’s “right to freedom of expression… regardless of frontiers” (Article 13). We have the power to support children’s voice and to assist others to listen. This presentation will outline research with, for, and about children undertaken by the Children’s Voices Centre.

About the presenters
Kathy Cologon is the Associate Director, Children and Families at the Children’s Voices Centre at CSU. Her research centres on inclusive education, disability studies and children’s rights, with a particular focus on challenging ableism and promoting equity in early childhood and school settings. She leads research advancing inclusive practice in Australia and internationally, and her work informs policy, teacher education and curriculum design.
Tamara Cumming is the Associate Director, Workforce and Policy of the Children’s Voices Centre at CSU. Her research focuses upon the wellbeing and sustainability of the early childhood education workforce in Australia and globally. She is co-leader of the Early Childhood Educators’ Wellbeing Project – a program of research and advocacy that has had impacts on Australian and international wellbeing policy and practice.
