Join us online on Wednesday, 13 August at 12:00-13:00 (AEST) for our next session in the Masterclass Series: Seeing like a Researcher featuring Professor Julian Grant, Executive Director, Rural Health Research Institute, who will critique a series of First Nations research activities to reflect on what being a First Nations ally in research might mean.

Session Overview

In this innovative session, Julian will explore the intersections of how you identify in your academic and personal positioning and what you may be doing, saying and being in your intent to partner with Australia’s First Peoples. You will be encouraged to reflect on and apply learnings to shape your current and future engagement.

This is a valuable opportunity for researchers looking to understand more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research.

About the presenter

Professor Julian Grant is a registered nurse and Professor of Nursing working on Wiradjuri land at Charles Sturt University, where she holds the role of Executive Director, Rural Health Research Institute. Having worked as a child and family health nurse across rural, remote and metropolitan Australia for 18 years her research focusses on addressing health inequities experienced by children and families as they relate to race, gender, geography, and child abuse or neglect.Professor Grant’s research explores and critiques individual and systemic barriers within the nursing and interdisciplinary workforce tasked with supporting health and wellbeing. This has led to both significant change and advanced knowledge about 1) how care is defined and delivered for children and families, especially those experiencing health inequities; 2) decolonising policy and practice with children and families from First Australian, refugee and migrant backgrounds; and 3) interdisciplinary education for professionals working with children and families.

Professor Grant was appointed by the Minister to serve on the NHMRC Health Research Impact Committee from 2021-2024 and is currently appointed on the NHMRC Research Committee. She is the Academic elected member of the Charles Sturt University Council.
