Join us to celebrate the end of 2024!
Whether you are at the end of your study journey or just starting out we would love to see you and hear about your highs and lows of 2024 and what you are looking forward to in 2025!

All PGSA members and non-members are most welcome!

Put on a Santa hat, upload a festive zoom background, make a little something special for lunch and join us to celebrate our last meeting of the year.

PGSA committee member and HDR student, Diane Cass, is going to kick us off with a short presentation on ‘managing our wellbeing over the holiday break’ and then it will be over to you to share your stories and successes from 2024 and some of your plans for the New Year.

There will even be some holiday games and giveaways!

Seeing like a researcher: Masterclass series

Seeing Like a Researcher is a masterclass series led by Professor Mark Evans. The Series highlights the experience, skills, wisdom and advice of Charles Sturt’s research leaders on themes relating to research innovation and professional skills for research.

We are excited to have Distinguished Professor Geoff Gurr join us for Session 7, Publish or Perish, Publish and Thrive.

Distinguished Professor Gurr is an internationally recognised ecologist who has held academic appointments at Melbourne, New England, Sydney and Charles Sturt as well as visiting professor positions at Sydney, Lincoln University (New Zealand) and Zhejiang University and Fujian Agriculture & Forestry University (China). His work over the last three decades has focused on harmonising agriculture with the natural environment. Read more

Australian Graduate Women 2025 Fellowships

AGW is pleased to announce that in 2025 it will award the following Fellowships

Two (2) Barbara Hale Fellowships: Value $8,000 each

These Fellowships are open to students who, being Australian citizens or permanent residents, are enrolled in a research doctorate in any discipline at any Australian university.

One (1) Georgina Sweet Fellowship in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine: Value $8,000

This Fellowship is open to students who, being Australian citizens or permanent residents, are enrolled in a research doctorate in a STEMM discipline at any Australian university.

AgriFutures Scholarship

The Gary Sansom Scholarship is a postgraduate scholarship designed specifically to support the AgriFutures Chicken Meat Program industry priorities.

The Gary Sansom Scholarship was established in honour of former AgriFutures Chicken Meat Advisory Panel Chair and Australian Chicken Meat Federation President, Gary Sansom, who himself was a great leader of the chicken meat industry. Mr Sansom was a long-standing supporter of programs encouraging new people into the chicken meat industry and championed several communication and training initiatives vital to the industry.

Have you completed the GRES?

Our annual Graduate Researcher Experience Survey (GRES) is still open until Friday 6th December. 

We rely on the feedback from our students in the GRES to inform the development and improvement of our services, support and resources for HDR. Your opinion matters to us as it helps us to understand what we are doing well and where we can do better.

Results from previous GRES have led to improved access to training, communication practices and administration processes and increased financial support. It has also informed many of our student outreach activities and training for students, staff and supervisors.

So far, our response rate for this year’s survey is at just over 10%, which means there are many diverse voices and experiences that have not been heard.

We know it is a busy time of year but if you have yet to do so, please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

We look forward to having your voice included!

Researcher careers across borders: supporting careers beyond academia

‘Researcher careers across borders: supporting careers beyond academia’ is an online event being held on Thursday 21 November 09:00-11:00 (GMT). This webinar is focused on international approaches to how researchers are supported to explore careers beyond academia.

This event will be joined by:

  • Dr Teresa Rosas, Academic Talent and EDI Officer at CREAF (Inici | Creaf), who will share CREAF’s initiatives for supporting researchers in careers outside of academia
  • Dr Johanna Stadlbauer, Anthropologist and Head of Postdoctoral Office at the University of Graz, who will present insights on how Graz supports researchers in exploring non-academic career paths
  • Professor Alison Truelove from the University of Exeter, who will present on the Developing Business-Aware Academics project (Welcome – Developing Business-Aware Academics) focused on developing business-related skills in researchers
