BJBS student wins Howard Yuker Award for Research Excellence
Faculty of Business Justice and Behavioural Sciences would like to congratulate PhD candidate Ms Chrissy Antonopoulos who received the Harold Yuker Award for Research Excellence from the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology of the American Psychological Association. The paper was entitled “Implicit Bias Towards People with Disability: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”.
In receipt of the award Chrissy said, “It is an honour to receive the Harold Yuker Award for Research Excellence. I’ve lived with disability for most my adult life and have experienced the effects of negative attitudes and stereotypes. It was my lived experience that led me to pursue a PhD and write this paper on implicit bias towards people with disability. This paper found overwhelmingly that people with disability experience negative implicit attitudes and stereotypes. Such negative attitudes can limit people with disability achieving their goals and aspirations.
The late Dr. Yuker began a legacy of research into attitudes and perceptions of people with disability, and the continuation of his work is needed more than ever as we continue to experience negative biases. Thank you to the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology for promoting research on experiences of living with disability and providing an academic voice to people with disability.”
Chrissy also noted the support she had received from her supervisors Dr Nicole Sugden and Professor Anthony Saliba.

HDR student represents on international Climate and Sustainability Committee
BJBS HDR candidate, Muhammad Rana, has been elected as a member of the IEEE Young Professionals Climate and Sustainability Committee! 🌍🌱 This community, originally created as a task force, has now become a long-term initiative aligned with the UN General Assembly cycle. It was created to:
- Create tools, resources, and support mechanisms for early career professionals to engage in the Climate-Sustainability-Technology interface.
- Serve as a focal point for young professionals engaging in the space – establish a centralized platform and network to facilitate the active participation of young professionals in this field.
- Act as the interface between young professionals and other organizational units of IEEE and provide YP support across the organization-wide efforts of IEEE.
- Act as the interface between IEEE YPs, external youth-driven entities that share a common goal, youth-supporting mechanisms, and other entities (including related UN processes, energy agencies, industrial entities, non-profit programs, etc.) in the Climate-Sustainability-Technology interface.
BJBS Executive Dean’s Award 2024
Congratulations also to HDR student, Andrea Young who won the Executive Dean’s award. Andrea is a Doctor of Business Administration candidate. Executive Dean’s Awards are awarded to students who have achieved a grade point average of 6.0 or higher (or H1 grade for any Honours dissertation or thesis subject). Only a small number of students attain this high level of achievement. Andrea’s academic performance has been most impressive and with this award, the Faculty of BJBS formally recognises her dedication and hard work. Her research will explore how change might emotionally influence how employees feel about being in their workplace, using the content markers of the psychological contract such as job satisfaction, job security, opportunity for promotion, or career development. We look forward to hearing more about her work as she progresses through her degree.
