Week 1 – Blog Post EER500
First week of Educational research was all about reading, reading and more reading. I love to read but all this technical information and trying to absorb what it all means was a bit overwhelming.
I learnt about literature reviews, what is a research question and most importantly:
Social Research is MESSY
I then read about the differences between quantitative and qualitative research.
My head then exploded. I know research is important. I know that understanding how research is conducted is important. I know I have to study this as part of my course, but at the moment I have no idea what I am going to look at, let alone how I am going to research it.
Hi Gillian,
Glad I’m not the only one who freaked out about EER500. My plan is to sink my teeth into EDLT401 and then see if EER500 is feasible for me to complete. if I don’t think I can, I’ll pull out before the cut-off date.
I’m hoping that I can adapt Ass2 from EDLT for Ass1 in EER.
Ask your librarian for some ideas but remember that it’s a Literature Review first and then an idea for further research. I lucked out and found a research paper which gave suggestions for further research. All the best!
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for the comment. I have now found an area that I am interested in looking at. I figured we would have to do two different areas for ELT and EER.
Like you I am not sure if I will continue to do EER, because like you I am wondering if it is feasible (I just returned to teaching part-time, plus run a business with my husband so I am not sure I can devote 20-30 hours a week to study as well.
My main concern is I know there is a time frame to complete this course (not that I can remember what it is) and don’t want to be in a position where I have to complete 3 subjects in one semester.
Cheers,
Gillian
