I have just started looking around the ETL402 Literature Across the Curriculum dashboard and I am ready to delve into books, books and more books. I am so excited to be doing this subject! I love children’s books – we are so lucky to have access to so many wonderful books in Australia.
I am particularly partial to a great picture book and I love YA novels – especially if they have a strong, resilient female lead. My first foray into YA was when I just started teaching – while browsing through my local bookshop for a picture book I stumbled across Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden. I purchased the paper back on the spot (after sitting on the floor and reading the first chapter).
I have since upgraded to hardbacks of the whole series (and of course the Ellie Chronicles as well).
I borrowed a whole stack of books for the holidays including a pile of picture books, most on the Children’s Book Council of Australia lists or on the Premiers Reading Challenge lists and a few novels I missed out on like A Series of Unfortunate Events, Holes and Once.
I was so excited to read the course instructions that basically said read lots of books! I think I may have that covered for the moment.
