Book.

April is having trouble navigating all the friendship drama of Year 6, so she volunteers to be a Buddy Bench monitor for the Year 4 kids. This is where she spots a lone boy (Joey) making patterns in the dirt with his feet. He ignores anyone who tries to talk to him, but April is intrigued!

This story is told by both April and Joey. Joey tells his story through drawings,. pictures and his own unique point of view.

This is a great book about friendship and difference, and learning to understand and accept other people’s uniqueness.  It isn’t always a happy story, and shows that even though life doesn’t always go perfectly, it can help us to grow and move forward.

Here’s an interesting blog post where the author talks about the photo that inspired the book.
