Online harassment is when people use the internet to say mean or hurtful things to others, or to make them feel scared or embarrassed. It can happen in lots of different ways, like sending mean messages, sharing private information without permission, or even spreading rumors and lies. Online harassment isn’t just a small problem – it’s a big deal because it can really hurt people’s feelings and make them feel unsafe. Being bullied online can make someone feel sad, scared, or even think about hurting themselves. The digital age culture of oversharing information on social media shows the importance of learning how to set appropriate personal boundaries in a virtual world (Bearden, 2016). To stop online harassment, we need to talk about it, make sure people who do it get in trouble, and make stronger rules to protect people online. If we all work together to stop online harassment and support anyone who’s been hurt by it, we can make the internet a nicer place for everyone to be themselves.
