When doing research it is important to evaluate the source of the research to determine if it is of value, is it information that is correct or does it contain potential bias. For example, a company trying to sell you a product may rely on their own research making the results inherently biased.
Below is a checklist for evaluating the results of research.
CURRENCY- Check to see the age of the information. Is it current?
RELIABILITY- Does it come from a trusted source such as a government website or peer reviewed journal article
AUTHORITY- Are the creators of the content experts in the field.
PURPOSE- What is the purpose of the content. Is it to sell something, or from a tabloid newspaper. The most trusted sources are those that are the result of independent peer reviewed research. (Charles Sturt University, 2020)
