What have you learnt about yourself from your experience in the group project? What skills have you developed?

From experiencing this group project, I have learned that I am somewhat of a natural team leader. I aim to get assignments completed on time by doing my best to organise group meetings and enhancing communication.  I am also the person in the group who will proofread and correct all the grammatical errors to perfect the assignment. I have also learned that I am a cooperative team member, and I am able to contribute to all assignments and work cohesively in a team environment.

Have you experienced conflicts in your team? If yes, what strategies did you use/have in place to overcome it?

Yes, my team has experienced conflict with one another regarding work ethic, communication, and team effort. Specifically, we have had a problem with our time schedule and meeting up with one another to organise and complete our tasks. Does diversity amongst team member’s backgrounds and experiences improve the team, or reduce its efficiency? Why?

Does diversity amongst team member’s backgrounds and experiences improve the team, or reduce its efficiency? Why?

Diversity amongst backgrounds and experiences within a team will both improve and reduce the team’s efficiency. A diverse team enhances and improves innovation due to a variety of experiences, skills, and different educational levels. These attributes make it better for a team to brainstorm and solve problems, further enhancing the team. For example, a team member who has recently graduated from university and has experience in dentistry can provide advantageous knowledge within the group.

In contrast, diversity in a team may also reduce and hinder its efficiency. Diversity in a team gives rise to various perspectives and notions. This can lead to miscommunication and misunderstanding arising within the team. For example, a team member who has English as a second language and has different cultural views may find it difficult to understand and work together as a team, even if they are within the dental field.
