About me

I am a teacher librarian in an independent school of Western Sydney. It is something I greatly enjoy and am eager to consolidate with a teacher librarian qualification, new skills and new ideas!

I am from Newfoundland, Canada, but have been away for a very long time. I am told my accent varies from “American” to “European” or that I have no accent at all. I don’t think you’ll get the Newfoundland accent from me unless you put me in a room with other Newfoundlanders- no easy feat in Sydney, Australia.

Despite my age, I still love to play basketball. I am an avid reader and, like you, cannot pass a bookstore without going in. I cannot leave any bookstore without buying books if the staff of said bookstore write on little cards to endorse their favourite books. This is much the same with music.

I am allowed to argue with my boss about books. This includes books in the library. She once banned a book which prompted me to write a collections policy for our library. If only I knew what I was doing in the first place, that book would definitely not have been banned because the collections policy would have stood in the way! This banned book remains a combustible issue between us. Despite this one contentious  matter, this same boss supports every other venture and idea requiring her support, including spending on digital technologies and various programs taking students and myself out of the school and into the world.

There is a little window into our primary library via a modest Instagram account: @fishpondlibrarian (formerly @georgeslibrary).
