Bonanno’s 2011 ASLA address has one clear and dire message to teacher librarians: make your mark and be seen!
This is something which was echoed in several other TL conferences over the years to follow and for good reason given, as Bonanno says, many of the top decision makers in education and schools do not know what it is TLs even do. They struggle to articulate any clear way TLs add value or make an impact on the teaching and learning at school. While Bonanno makes it clear that TLs do have an impact, it is up to TLs themselves to make these impacts noticeable by building relationships across the school and making the TL skill set known and valued.
She challenges us to, know who we are, what we stand for, and who we say we are.
