Team Development Reflection

Session 2 welcomed us with a new and exciting yet slightly daunting challenge of working through an industry related problem in designated groups. It is not the task at hand that is daunting, but the concept of working through such a complex and intricate issue with a group of mere strangers. And if that wasn’t a test in its own out right, we now face a lockdown with no true ending insight. Whilst it can seem all quite overwhelming, as a team, adaptions have been made and techniques and tools put in place to ensure that as a group we can still perform as close to our best as possible.

In the beginning, my group jumped straight into it, setting up group chats, discussing possible meeting times and establishing a brief acquaintance with one another. However, this team building was contested when the official problem was given. Many individuals, including myself, had very different takes on the proposed question which was not discussed well and quickly lead to clashing. Whilst this, along with a clash of leadership set us back a short while, it has, in turn, built a stronger team and has allowed us to now develop a sense of comfort to share input and ideas and ultimately designate roles and responsibilities, define goals and now strive towards the finish line as a team.

Group projects are never easy, especially one that was not self allocated and rather allocated for you, however, it is a key skill to have and I look forward to the progression of the project.
