My Connecting Experience

Today has been a day of learning. I learnt that i need to connect online more and broaden my horizons. Through doing the online Connect Quiz i have learnt that i have many things to improve on. However, i also learnt i am confident in other aspects of online learning. As part of of personal learning environment i feel confident that i can find, understand and interpret new information when needed. I am confident i know where to find people with similar interests as me and communicate appropriately. I believe i understand the difference in synchronous and asynchronous online learning modes and am able to access live learning modes and tools at my disposal.

Connecting with other people and companies online is important to anyone trying to make a professional name for themselves. It shows initiative when reaching out to other people and proves you have connection skills that are able to help you improve your communication skills with a vast number of colleagues in society. How you present yourself online both in your private life and academic life leaves a mark. Anything you upload online or comments you make online leaves a footprint and can be found by anyone. By presenting a respective and clean online name you show employers why you would be a good choice for the future. However, by presenting a abhorrent online footprint, including on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and anything else, will show you are not what the employer is looking for. I believe i have a clean, respective and true online profile with everything i use. I am very aware of the importance of having a clean profile because i represent both my present employer and future employers.

Online groups i have joined have shown me the importance of connecting and learning on new platforms. Other people may have other opinions and knowledge, and through this new experience on various platforms i am now able to understood their opinions because of their assistance.

On Facebook i have connected with my peers by joining online groups connected to subjects i study at CSU. We discuss assignments coming up, tips and tricks to the subject and answer any questions each other have. This is helpful for when we need to know others opinions.

Through my online weekly lecture we have the opportunity to discus the weeks coursework and our imprints online.

There are now platforms out there to help connect job seekers with employers to fine suitable work and vice versa where employers can search for new employees through selection criteria. These platforms are becoming for promoted in our society as out digital advancement occurs. One of these platforms is Seek.

Using my LinkedIn profile i have connected with other students from my ITC174 class with CSU and learnt that we are all in this together. Professionals are harder to connect with.

Before now, i have never considered my online life as to have much significence. I never contemplated that by sharing a joke i laughed at could be unfunny to others. Now i see that everything online can be retrieved. That post you shared 3 years ago can come back to haunt you. Employers can look you up with a simple name search and find all they need to know about you from how you present yourself to others. In hind site, this can be either very good or very bad.

Connecting online with others has never been my strong suit. I need to learn to be better and achieve higher in these things.
