Abstract
Edge Computing a way forward for time critical IOT applications and devices: Focusing primarily in the networking context of IoT.
Internet of Things (IoT) is ever growing with the intend of having physical devices connected to the internet, regardless of its physical location, for collecting and sharing data by either minimizing or completely removing human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. From a simple light bulb to a much advance automated car, IoT plays the pivoted role in making this a possibilities and researchers predicts more 31 billion by 2020. Having them connected is a feat in itself and having them online or connected uninterrupted would be another hurdle IoT users and implementor would have to overcome. When we think about connection of IoT devices we inevitably think about Cloud Computing and with colossal inclusion of IoT devices it could easily overwhelm even the cloud. Emerging architecture like fog and edge computing could help in minimizing this problem and provide better performance and security to IoT’s application and devise.
The main question here would be if edge computing is really a way forward is solving the impending problem of connectivity between IoT application and devices and if this would improve the performance and security as its final objective. Will edge computing be the ideal choice for time-critical IoT application and devices or if there is a better alternative?
The primary aim of my paper is to understand the concept of Edge and Fog computing and how it would enable IoT application and devices focusing primarily on the networking context of IoT. Also understand time-critical IoT applications and devices and furthermore analyzing the impact it has on performance and security.
The following would be the outcome/Deliverables:
- Project Schedule
- Annotated Bibliography
- Project Plan
- Project Synopsis
- Weekly Status Reports
- Weekly Blogs
- Project Presentation.
The resources I would be using would primarily be online Journals, books, case study and interacting with personnel who are more versed with IoT, Edge computing, Security, networking and cloud computing to get their insight on their experience.
