Turnitin – Assignment checking instruction

https://www.turnitin.com/

Turnitin is a major tool in the University’s efforts to defeat plagiarism.

Assessment items that are submitted to the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies (CCES) are submitted to Turnitin, which is a program that conducts an electronic comparison of work to many millions of other assignments, web pages, journals, and other written work from around the world.

To assist course participants, the University offers you access to be able to ‘pre-check’ your assignments and the like, prior to submitting them to the University. That check allows you to see if there are any major referencing problems in your work, and to check the originality of your writing. You are urged to do a Turnitin pre-check for all your assignments.

To submit assignments to Turnitin for similarity checking you must first signup by following the instructions and links in Check my Assignment in Turnitin and enrolling in the school “Centre for Customs and Excise Studies”.

All assignments that are shown as being possible cases of plagiarism in the course are referred to the Faculty Academic Integrity Officer for thorough investigation.

Please do not be tempted to improperly use another person’s work in your assignments. It is a very embarrassing and expensive exercise to receive zero marks for an assignment, to fail subjects, or have other penalties applied, owing to academic misconduct.
