A Bit About Me…

My name is Nicole.

I am currently studying Masters of Education (Teacher Librarianship) online and have been asked to use this platform as a reflective tool during my studies.

A bit about myself:

  • I have been teaching in primary schools in various roles over the past 9 years with focusses on behaviour and learning disorders, technology and literacy.
  • I recently spent 2 years living and teaching in East London learning about new theories and educational practices.
  • During that time, I travelled all over the UK and Europe, largely to places that have some kind of connection to literature (and movies, if I’m honest). I adore travelling and, had money not run out and my visa not fallen through, I would probably still be over there running around like a crazy.
  • Aside from teaching, travelling and books, I love to cook and bake. In a dream world where money isn’t an issue, I would own a bookstore/cafe of sweet things somewhere sunny.

Out of curiosity, what would you be doing if money was no issue?

Teacher. Traveller. Food lover. I have been teaching for nearly nine years in a variety of roles on both contract and casual basis. I have taught all over the NSW coast and spent 2 years teaching in East London. I am looking for a role in schools that reignites my enthusiasm and love of education. Where else but the library?!

  1. Hi Nicole,

I’d always fancied going back to uni to finish my first Masters degree which was in History. That time at uni (in the early 90s) was my favourite. I just spent everyday in the library at Monash pouring over books and plunging into the depth of research. It was a period where time stood still as I disappeared into a past world that was 500 years ago. I had every intention of becoming an academic and never having to leave my other world but life doesn’t always work out as you plan. So if I didn’t have to earn an income and the bills were paid, I think that’s where I’d be.
Hopefully as a librarian I can help others find their world where time stands still.

    1. That sounds wonderful! Hopefully one day you will get there, money is always a little bit of a barrier but there is always hope 🙂

  2. I love this question! Apart from travelling (a lot), if I had unlimited money, I would be running a dogs as reading therapy program. I love the idea of giving struggling readers and non-judgemental, furry friend to listen to them read.

    1. I would be right alongside with unlimitted travel. Haha. I love the idea of dogs as reading therapy! I can think of so many kids and adults who would benefit from such a program.

I love that this is where you finished…
Honestly, I love that you turned it back on me, making me question myself. My answer. Yes. There is no place I would rather be then teaching is this world. The opportunity to learn, travel, educate and connect with others is fantastic and an experience unlike any others.
It sounds like you have been travelling and honestly living the best life ever. As a young teacher I am envious of your travels and adventures. I look forward to hearing more from you. 🙂

    1. I admit it is a strategy I borrowed from previous social media experience- I love getting input from others and offering mine in a space where my interest is grabbed.
I have loved travelling and being able to teach whilst doing so. I would definitely recommend it but will say it can be difficult.
      Thanks for contributing!
