I am Ruwan and happily married to Donna for 20 years lives in Bayswater Victoria with our two teens, Lisa a Tabby cat and an oversized beagle named bagel.
I have been baking and cooking since 1983 all over the planet. Since 2007 I have been training and assessing upcoming bakers, cooks through the TAFE system. Currently working as baking teacher at Bendigo Kangan Institute of TAFE and loving it.
I teach people from many backgrounds and age groups who bring in lots of life experiences to the classroom and many times I have learned much from them too.
I try my best to provide the students with current industry knowledge which will be valued at a workplace when they join the workplace.
I had my own small cafe in Bayswater, Victoria it was called Cake and Spice and served home-style food. Of cause it had bread too.
Baking is like Yoga for me. It relaxes my body and mind. For me Bread means life and if you look into history it has been the reason for the French revolution. When French queen Marie Antoinette (1755–93) was informed that French people are starving they could not afford bread, she disrespectfully remarked: “Let them eat cake!” So in my view bread can be political too.
Whatever I do where ever I go I will keep baking. I think I am very lucky to make a living by teaching what I love, Baking. Can I complain?
I am trying to add some baking recipes in the blog to encourage everyone to bake because I believe everyone can learn to bake and enjoy the pleasure of baking. The best part of baking is when you can share your baked goods with your loved ones and see the reaction.
Watch this space.
