My name is Karla O and I am an English and Drama teacher at a comprehensive, co-educational high school in north west Sydney. This is my 12th year in the classroom and I am looking for a change. Thus why I commenced the Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) in 2018 through Charles Sturt University. 2019 sees me in my final year of study and fortunately I have had the opportunity to put my study into practice as I am relieving as the Teacher Librarian at my school for 12 months.
I am hoping this learning journey to become a Teacher Librarian (TL) will amalgamate my love for the classroom and reading in a different way to that of English teaching. Having had previous experience with Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) I have started this blog to help connect me with other Teacher Librarians and to help me further develop my practice as a TL by sharing some of the things I am learning.
In addition to the challenges of learning a new role and taking on part-time study, I am also teaching Year 12 Advanced for the first time and have stepped into the virtual classroom with Aurora College for 0.2 of my teaching load. I am also getting married this year, so I have a wedding to plan!
When not busying myself with work, study and wedding planning, I enjoy reading, going for walks, entertaining and enjoying time with friends and family and drinking copious amounts of tea.
