ETL402 – Reflection – How have your roles based on your ages, family background, societal position, religious beliefs and profession influenced your stance on censorship of children’s literature collections?

Coming into this topic I hadn’t thought to hard on my options on censorship in relation to school library collections, although I have had times where I have seen others censoring reading choices for students. I like to think that I don’t remove or censor the literature available to students but instead have discussions with students about the different perspectives that can be gained from reading and exploring books that sometimes don’t fit our traditionally views. I do however choose books that I think are most appropriate for the school library collection and the students who engage with it. This in a way is censorship.
