What possibilities arise for collaboration between teachers and the teacher librarian?
This really could be a never ending questions. How many different possibilities are their to not only collaborate in a school environment but also the chances to collaborate between teachers and teacher librarians. This can depend greatly on the structure of the school, what area of education they are in and the general staff and school culture.
In my own context I can see many different ways that teachers and teacher librarians could collaborate for the benefit of the students, staff and wider school community. Some of these include:
- planning wider school community events such as book sales, classroom walk throughs etc.
- integration of learning from the classroom to the library – having teachers and teacher librarians working together to collaboratively plan learning that is completed in the classroom and the library. Having teachers and teacher librarians take groups of students to focus on specific areas of the learning that are related to their teacher strengths.
- school planning – teachers and teacher librarians collaborating to plan the teaching and learning with the school.
Really these are just a few broad ways that teacher and teacher librarians could successfully and effectively collaborate within a school environment.
