As a recently graduated and newly proficient teacher I suppose I can say I am very familiar with the Australian teaching standards. I hadn’t yet thought about how these standards might change or be applied in a different way when working as a TL. The standards are something I often refer to when reflecting on my practice and I don’t see this changing with a TL role. I feel though that the way we interpret the standards is going to change. For example, Standard 1 – Knowing you students and how they learn is going to look very different as a TL than a classroom teacher and our practice and repour building with students will have to change to do this effectively. I like that the examples in the AITSL standards for teacher librarians show ways that TL’s can still meet these standards in a different way, and I think this document will be very beneficial in my practice in the future.
