Do we ever really consider how we use and don’t use technology. What impact it has on our day to day lives and how technology is a part of us. As a younger generation I have been fortunate to be brought up in a world of technology, but I have also been fortunate to see technology make significant changes over the years. Such as having access to and reliability of the internet in a residential environment and the changes to mobile and communication technology.
As a child our family had one old computer that’s primary purpose was to develop word documents along with a few games. This stayed the same until well into my high school career where we upgraded to a laptop and wireless internet. During this time, I was a user in the ever-changing mobile phone era. Even comparing my first mobile phone from 2006 and now there are drastic difference.
Had I really thought about how technology impacts my life on a deeper level rather than just having access to up to date technology.
The use of AI and the points brought up in the learning modules really made me consider what and how I search for information. Although I knew that AI existed and how it functioned, I never really thought to deeply about how it ‘directs the user’. Thinking deeper about this I think we have all had a time where we have searched for something and the suddenly have Facebook pops ups on the exact topic. People joke ‘’Oh the phone was listening to our conversation,’’ and although it isn’t actually listening this is essentially what it is doing. Technology and search engines in particular are developing profiles based on your frequent searches and then using that information when providing the data/information on your next search.
Are we really finding all the information we require when we rely purely on technology for research rather than going back to paper or digital versions of traditional factual information texts?

Great point Annie, about the algorithms and focused returns. I find it annoying when you have been searching for something, and either answered your question or bought the product, and the computer is still giving you the same ads or suggestions, that you really don’t need anymore. I need to keep this in mind when I am showing my juniors how to search for information.
