Fat Chance Belly Dance costumes are derived from various “folkloric” traditions and cultures.
Dancers often wear one more long, full, tiered 25 year skirts over pantaloons; a short choli with a decorated bra that has coins and textiles sewn to the bra, it is worn over the top of the choli; a decorative headband, hair flowers and/or other decorations; one or more hip scarves with tassels or fringe; a decorative belt often with coins, tassels and/or medallions; and lots of oxidised silver jewellery.
The Jewellery originates from Central Asia, from nomadic tribes or empires (e.g. Kuchi, Turkoman, Rajasthan).
Makeup usually focuses on a dark eye and red lip, and decorative bindi is often worn. Some dancers “tattoo” their faces with kohl or kajal.
