A Master’s degree student in cyber security would undertake this project to deepen their understanding of the intersection of artificial intelligence and cyber security and to explore how natural language processing techniques can be applied to address the challenges faced by small and medium-sized organisations in building and maintaining robust cyber security policies and systems.
With the rapid explosion of generative artificial intelligence and the corresponding network effect benefits as more people participate in using artificial intelligence technologies, there is potential for research that explores the application of generative artificial intelligence and natural language processing to building resilient security policies and systems for organisations that traditionally have struggled with the cost, time and access to cyber security expertise required to architect effective cyber security risk management.
This project will also allow a Master’s student to gain strong practical experience in data analysis and experimentation, as well as to further develop skills in communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
The key research questions that my project should address include:
- Can natural language processing techniques be used to analyse and extract relevant information from security policies and systems to identify potential vulnerabilities and areas for improvement?
- Can natural language processing applications provide automated assistance in the development and implementation of security policies and systems for small and medium-sized organisations, reducing the need for specialised expertise?
- How can natural language processing enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of cyber security for small and medium-sized organisations?
- What are the implications of using natural language processing techniques for cyber security in small and medium-sized organisations, including potential benefits, risks and limitations?
By answering these research questions, I aim to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in the field of cyber security and artificial intelligence and provide practical insights and recommendations for improving the cyber security posture of small and medium-sized organisations.
