What are my thoughts on the problem space I wish to research and begin to ideate around?

 

Cyber security is a critical concern for organizations of all sizes, but small and medium-sized organisations face unique challenges due to limited resources.

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a promising approach for improving cyber security, but many small and medium-sized organisations struggle to leverage AI due to cost and expertise barriers.

In this thesis, I explore the potential of natural language processing (NLP) techniques to enhance cyber security for small and medium-sized organisations. Specifically, we investigate whether NLP can be used to assist with the development and implementation of security policies and systems.

My research aims to address the following research problem: how can small and medium-sized organisations afford, build, and architect resilient and secure systems and policies using AI?

I believe that NLP applications can play a critical role in this context, and my research aims to demonstrate the potential of these techniques to enhance cyber security for small and medium-sized organisations.

Small and medium-sized organisations face significant challenges in building and maintaining robust cyber security policies and systems, including:

1. Limited resources, which can make it difficult to afford and implement security measures that manage risk holistically.
2. Lack of expertise, which can make it difficult to effectively manage and mitigate cyber security risks.

To address these challenges, natural language processing (NLP) techniques can be used to:

1. Analyse and extract relevant information from security policies and systems, making it easier to identify potential vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
2. Provide automated assistance in the development and implementation of security policies and systems, reducing the need for specialised expertise.
3. Enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of cyber security by automating tasks such as system architecture vulnerability scanning and making cyber security risk management concepts accessible for non-practitioners within organisations.

Through my research and experiments on a dataset of security policies and systems, I can demonstrate that NLP can significantly improve the cyber security posture of small and medium-sized organisations. By leveraging NLP techniques, these organisations can more effectively protect themselves against cyber threats, without the need for significant additional resources or expertise.
