Some suggested sites to start your research.
1) SBS Timeline
- Difficulty level: A/B
- This is a webpage from the SBS News website
- This webpage gives a timeline showing many of the major historical events in the Australian Indigenous Rights movement.
- This page should be a starting point to help improve your searching skills by supplying you with not only key phrases but also dates to go with them
- As a start try opening the SBS News website and using the search option find the timeline page
2) Homepage for the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).
- Difficulty level: C
- This website contains many different sources of information useful for your research.
- Search the site by using the Explore Tab on the homepage screen.
- Alternatively, use the search feature to look for specific information using your keywords
- By using the keyword search “2008 apology” the site will take you to the webpage on ‘The Stolen Generations’
- This page gives a summary of ‘The Stolen Generations’ from past to present including the national apology.
- Throughout the page, there are hyperlinks to further information on the topic in the form of reports, legislation, videos, etc.
- At the end of the page, there are more links to related videos, photos, and websites.
- Hint; by using the search feature and your keywords see what else this website has to offer.
3) Flagpost is the Federal Parliamentary Library blog
- Difficulty level: A
- This is the homepage of the blog on issues of interest to the Australian government (Flagpost, n.d.)
- This homepage has a lot of information that is not relevant to this assignment. However, there are three areas you will find useful.
- First, the homepage has its most recent posts listed in date order (you will notice there is a current post relative to your assignment). There is also the function to scroll through all posts from most to least recent.
- Second; the filter menu on the left-hand side allows you to filter posts by year and date. This function is particularly useful if you are looking for a particular article and know roughly when it was written.
- Third and most important to you is the search by keyword function.
- The 1967 Referendum is a post that can be found using the keyword search 1967 referendum. This post gives statistics and discusses the background and the impact of the Referendum.
- It has links to further articles on the subject and suggestions for further reading
- At the bottom of the page, there are tags listed which you can use for further searches (these may be useful to add to your keyword list)
- Try seeing what other articles you can find with the same keyword search
4) National Museum Homepage https://www.nma.gov.au/
- Difficulty level: A
- This homepage also has some information that is not relevant for your research. There are, however, two functions that you will find very interesting
- First is the explore tag that gives a drop-down menu. Try searching in the online or the audio-on-demand features, there are many sources that relate to your research.
- Second is the keyword search function.
- This function acts to give two choices from your search. One explores a variety of resources related to your search and the other gives specific articles on your search

- Explore this site and some other choices using the explore and defining moments options
5) ABC News.
- Difficulty level: A/B
- Because this website is a news website it’s content is updated continually.
- This has the benefit of finding the most up to date information, but can be difficult to find a specific resource due to the number of pages it contains.
- Due to the number of resources available finding an article using the keyword function on this website can be a little more time-consuming
- It is suggested that you use your keyword search to find any article on your subject then scroll to the bottom of the articles page and use the “More-on” tab to help you find the ideal article. This does require more effort than some websites but there are many excellent resources to be found.
- This article on the Yirrkal-Bark petitions has some very useful information for your assignment and a list of related articles.

6) Australian Human Rights Commission; Education Page

- By using the keyword search option with keywords stolen generations see what information you can access.
- You will notice there is a lot of information available.
- Try to apply CRAAP to find information that is suitable for your research, be mindful of the P
7) Australian Screen
- Difficulty level: A
- Australian screen is a part of the national sound and film archives.
- Try using your keywords to search for this film clip showing historical views on your research topic
- Each clip is accompanied by a description, curators and educational notes
8) Amnesty International
- Difficulty level: A
- This is a simple webpage that sets out the Australian Aboriginal Rights and Freedoms. It has links to declarations that relate to them and explains how these are used to address the issues indigenous peoples face. Try some of these links to determine if the information covered in the website satisfies the CRAAP test
