Digital Etiquette

Digital etiquette refers to standards of conduct or behaviour online. Essentially, it boils down to being a nice person online. A lot of traditional communication etiquette rules are transferred to the online world, and things move much more smoothly when these are adhered to.

Take this list for example:

As the above image shows, it isn’t that hard to be a reasonable person online. However, we do need to teach students these standards.

One which I’d add to the above list is this: Facebook (or insert other social media site), is not real life. Social media sites form quite a large part of many people’s online interactions, but we need to be sure we don’t give them more power or importance than they deserve.

You are not your Facebook page, although people will judge you for the content. ALWAYS think before you post.
